It was the gun being off centre that caught my eye.A large, heavy and old-fashioned but dependable and robust piece of Anglo-American engineering - rapidly becoming obsolete but still loved by those who used them... and an F-4J Phantom
Yes, in the midst of all the doom and gloom surrounding Bruntingthorpe, the future is at least looking bright for some other neglected airframes.
ZE360 was taken on by the British Phantom Aviation Group a while ago now and has slowly been being dismantled to evacuate DFTDC Manston before it closes for good. After 20 years outside in the seaside air it has been putting up a fight!
When restrictions have allowed I've been helping mechanically and logistically, and managed to capture the above sunset snap during a weekend visit.

Sorry no pic, but I was re-watching the "The Italian Job" on Xmas and didn't recognise the aircraft that the gold was delivered to Turin in.

Used to love seeing that when I was in Afghanistan. Great pictures
Excuse my ignorance, but what is "that"? Is it sand hitting the rotor blades? It kinda looks like the bioluminescence you get when diving.Kopp-Etchells effect if you don't want to read all the above - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopp%E2%80%93Etchell...

St Elmo's Fire (which was also a cracking song)..
I've seen St Elmo's many times from the flight deck. Pretty sure you need positively (or negatively?) charged clouds hitting the airframe to achieve that though?Just reading the above linked Wiki on The Kopp–Etchells effect - "The effect is often and incorrectly believed to be an electrical phenomenon, either as a result of static electricity as in St. Elmo's Fire"

Stand corrected. What causes the glow?Just reading the above linked Wiki on The Kopp–Etchells effect - "The effect is often and incorrectly believed to be an electrical phenomenon, either as a result of static electricity as in St. Elmo's Fire"
